estimates for overdetermined Radon transforms

We prove several variations on the results of F. Ricci and G. Travaglini (2001), concerning bounds for convolution with all rotations of arc length measure on a fixed convex curve in . Estimates are obtained for averages over higher-dimensional convex (nonsmooth) hypersurfaces, smooth -dimensional surfaces, and nontranslation-invariant families of surfaces. We compare Ricci and Travaglini's approach, based on average decay of the Fourier transform, with an approach based on boundedness of Fourier integral operators, and show that essentially the same geometric condition arises in proofs using the two techniques.

     

Closed manifolds coming from Artinian complete intersections

We reformulate the integrality property of the Poincaré inner product in the middle dimension, for an arbitrary Poincaré -algebra, in classical terms (discriminant and local invariants). When the algebra is -connected, we show that this property is the only obstruction to realizing it by a smooth closed manifold, in dimension . We analyse the homogeneous artinian complete intersections over realized by smooth closed manifolds of dimension , and their signatures.

     

C*-algebras associated with interval maps

For each piecewise monotonic map of , we associate a pair of C*-algebras and and calculate their K-groups. The algebra is an AI-algebra. We characterize when and are simple. In those cases, has a unique trace, and is purely infinite with a unique KMS state. In the case that is Markov, these algebras include the Cuntz-Krieger algebras , and the associated AF-algebras . Other examples for which the K-groups are computed include tent maps, quadratic maps, multimodal maps, interval exchange maps, and -transformations. For the case of interval exchange maps and of -transformations, the C*-algebra coincides with the algebras defined by Putnam and Katayama-Matsumoto-Watatani, respectively.

Boundary Limits for Bounded Quasiregular Mappings

In this paper we establish results on the existence of nontangential limits for weighted -harmonic functions in the weighted Sobolev space , for some q>1 and w in the Muckenhoupt A _q class, where is the unit ball in . These results generalize the ones in Sect. 3 of Koskela et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 348(2), 755–766, 1996, where the weight was identically equal to one. First isolation of a flavonoid from Juniperus procera using ethyl acetate extract

Phytochemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves of Juniperus procera growing in south Saudi Arabia Enemas region led to the isolation of a new flavonoid using different chromatographic methods (i.e. paper, thin layer and column chromatography). The isolated flavonoid was identified and established by m.p., ¹H-NMR, ¹³C-NMR, UV and MS spectral analysis. The isolated compound was identified as 3′,4′,3,7-tetrahydroxyflavone.     

High-spin excitations of 81, 82, 83, 85Se : Competing single-particle and collective structures around N = 50

The ^{81, 82, 83, 85}Se nuclei have been produced as fission fragments in the fusion reaction ¹⁸O + ²⁰⁸Pb at 85MeV bombarding energy and studied with the Euroball IV array. Their high-spin level schemes have been built from the triple -ray coincidence data and - angular correlations have been analyzed in order to assign spin and parity values to many observed states. The lowest-spin states of the two-neutron and three-neutron configurations are strongly mixed with two-proton excitations among the fp orbits. On the other hand, the highest-spin states of these neutron configurations are found to remain almost pure. Neutron excitation across the N = 50 gap is observed both in ⁸³Se₄₉ and in ⁸⁵Se₅₁ .
